Searching For Change

One little thing I did this year was switch my search engine over to Ask.com.

It's an almost necessary irony for a company whose rule of business is "Don't be evil" to become the most evil company ever. I'm not saying Google is there yet; I'm just suggesting a literary necessity that they get there.

Even more, I would suggest that their journey will be archetypal. Believing themselves to be good (and that makes them different from evil corporations), they will be able to justify any action they undertake.

And we all know where that leads.

  1. I think you're right. And yet, I keep my email with them...

  2. I have thought about stopping googling. I am so comfortable and used to it. But they are pretty big turds at this point.

  3. Freeman,

Yeah, I've got an e-mail account, and this blog is in Googlespace. If I monetize this blog or one of my other sites, Google Ads is a likely candidate.

Sort of like with Mircosoft: I have some Linux boxes, but still need to use Windows from time-to-time, but I stay pretty severely away from MS products wherever I can.

As knox says, they're mostly in the "turd" category now. Heh. I just want to be prepared when they go full-on evil.

Grab an umbrella. Unleash hell. Your mileage may vary. Results not typical. If swelling continues past four hours, consult a physician.
